It has been his dream to share the culture of his homeland with the people of his adopted home. In Bambara, ko-falen means “gift exchange.” Ko-Falen Cultural Center seeks to promote cultural, artistic and educational exchanges between people in the U.S. and Mali. We believe that a greater understanding between people can be reached through these personal exchanges.

The La Grande Education Foundation believes money should not be a barrier to the great ideas and passions of teachers. To that end, through our primary fund--the General Excellence in Education Fund--we give grants to teachers to make special projects a reality. We also believe our coaches, advisors, participants, and players should spend more time engaged in the pursuit of excellence and less time on fundraising. To achieve this, we issue grants to support our athletic teams and school activities. In addition, the foundation sponsors several college scholarships for La Grande High School graduates. Additions to the existing scholarships or the creation of new scholarships is welcomed by the foundation.

Lewis & Clark Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution
The Sons of the American Revolution is the leading male lineage society that perpetuates the ideals of the War for Independence. As a historical, educational, and patriotic, non-profit corporation, we seek to maintain and expand the meaning of patriotism, respect for our national symbols, the value of American citizenship, and the unifying force of e pluribus unum that was created from the people of many nations, one nation and one people.
This chapter has many activities and its rapid growth and success may well be attributed to the fact that it has something to offer everyone that wishes to get involved through our Mentoring program. These activities include American History presentations in school with our Learning Trunk; a traveling booth; a community outreach program; and a Boy Scout program.

Founded in 1962, the Museum’s exhibits are displayed in Brownsville’s original railroad depot and six Southern Pacific railroad cars. Our collections cover the lives, work, and cultures of Native People, Oregon Trail immigrants, Black and White pioneer settlers, and the early families and communities of Linn County. You will also find exhibits on the Brownsville Woolen Mill, regional mining and the filming of the movie Stand By Me. One of the boxcars is even a 29 seat theater, The Boxcar Theatre. We also house a fairly extensive, and well used, Genealogy Section. Of particular interest is the Covered Wagon that carried the Drinkard family across the Oregon Trail in 1865. Not to be missed is the elegant 1881 Moyer House, open for tours on weekends and by request.

Located in Walterville, Oregon, the McKenzie River Discovery Center will be a world-class destination offering transformational experiences through educational displays of historic artifacts, interactive exhibits, interpretive nature trails and more, focused on three main areas:
Geology and Hydrology: Volcanic activity 3-10 million years ago created enormous underground lava chambers that became the underground reservoir giving rise to the McKenzie. The McKenzie River is one of the largest “spring creeks” in the world, with its unique hydrology keeping the water steadily flowing at extremely cold temperatures and high volumes, which filters the water naturally. It is now one of the last places where species of threatened salmon and trout can be found.
Cultural History: For about 8,000 years, the McKenzie River valley has been home to the Mollala and Kalapuya tribes among others, who visited and lived in the area for its abundance of fish, game, berries and obsidian. In modern times, the river has captivated anglers drawn to the promise of world-class fishing opportunities. The McKenzie River Drift Boat, developed specifically for fishing on its namesake river, is famous among river and fishing enthusiasts, and is now used worldwide. These ground-breaking boats and subsequent guide culture have significantly influenced the world of white water fishing.
Fish and Ecology: The McKenzie is revered for its native “redside” rainbow trout, bull trout and spring Chinook salmon. One of the last places these species are found, they are foremost magnets, drawing and shaping human culture for centuries. The river’s pristine riparian habitat also supports summer steelhead, sensitive amphibian species, river otters, osprey and more.
